Rehabilitation

The BTS movement analysis lab is an instrument of fundamental importance for rehabilitation centers.
The computer analysis of gait or of any motor gesture can provide:

  • Instantaneous and accurate measurements
  • Quantitative data that can be easily interpreted for monitoring the rehabilitation treatment
  • Objective data that can be compared, and that cannot be detected by traditional video
  • Information essential to optimize in time the therapeutic and rehabilitation plan, depending on the patient's progress or lack thereof
The clinician determines the protocols to use and can apply them quickly by using predefined templates.
  • Kinematic analysis (angles, space-time parameters)
  • Dynamic analysis (forces, moments and powers)
  • Electromyographic analysis
  • Multifactor analysis integrating kinematics, dynamics and electromyography
As these exams are completely noninvasive, they can be repeated several times, even at short intervals.

Gait Analysis

Gait analysis is applied to humans with pathological conditions such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, and neuromuscular disorders.
Gait analysis involves the measurement of the movement of the body(kinematics)and the forces involved in producing these movements (kinetics).

The goal of gait analysis systems is to identify, analyze and correct walking irregularities.
Gait analysis systems are specifically used to

  • develop predictive models of pathology
  • diagnose and quantify functional limitations
  • identify if and when surgery may be necessary
  • design an optimal surgical and treatment plan
  • monitor follow-up and better forecast outcome to treatment
  • document functional status for long-term improvement in cost and quality of treatment

BTS has developed motion analysis solutions specifically for gait analysis.

The BTS SMART-D motion analysis systems (for kinematics) along with the BTS PocketEMG or BTS FreeEMG (for EMG) and force plates from AMTI, Bertec or Kistler (for kinetics) will provide clinicians with the capabilities to better quantify and diagnose motor dysfunctions.

Reliable, synchronized and comparable data can be obtained in less than thirty minutes, including:

  • Linear and rotational kinematics (angles, displacement, etc.)
  • Stride time and space parameters
  • Ground reaction forces
  • Moments and power
  • EMG
  • Video recording

The synchronization of all signals allows clinicians to evaluate simultaneously how the patient moves, when muscle activity occurs, and how much force with the ground during a stride cycle as a function of time is applied.

The main objective of clinicians is to improve the quality of life for patients:
and the BTS gait analysis lab has been designed to help them attain this objective.
